  1. 1Materials list.  Crayons, watercolors or color pencils may be used instead of acrylic paints.

  1. 2Download both halves and print.

  1. 3For the b&w version, color with the medium of your choice.  I used acrylic paints, diluted just a bit and  applied with a very cheap brush.

  1. 4Cut along the outer most black line surrounding the figure.

  1. 5When finished cutting, you should have this.  Please save the remaining waste paper.  You will use it next.

  1. 6Cut the paper into pieces about this big.

  1. 7Wad them up like this.

  1. 8Begin stapling from one side of Mayor Guin’s hat brim, along the outline, over to the other side of the brim and then stop.

  1. 9Grab Mayor Guin by the hat and turn him upside down.  Start placing wads of paper down into his hat.  Gently push the paper down into the hat with the back of a no.2 pencil or capped felt pen (shown in the material list).  Shape small pieces to fit into his beak, hat brim and flippers.

  1. 10Continue stapling down to the ends of Mayor Guin’s flippers.  Then, stuff more paper inside.  Staple down to his feet and stuff the remaining paper wads inside.

  1. 11Your penguin should be about this thick when you are ready to close the penguin.  Stapling around his feet might be a bit difficult.  Remove some paper if necessary.

  1. 12Follow the same instructions for Bernie The Postwhale.  Start stapling at his nose and work toward his tail.  Hint:  Roll thin wads of paper to use in his lower jaw, front fin and tail.

Note:  These figures are not intended as toys for toddlers.  The staples might prick young fingers.  If concerned please use non-toxic white glue instead of staples.  However, it might take longer to constuct the figure, as the glue has to dry between steps.

With that said, enjoy!  Let’s begin...
